Sassy and a Bit Twisted
I was in Walgreens the other day looking at magazines and puzzle books (I was fiending for the new Cosmo and some diagramless crosswords) - and these two guys about my age (early to mid twenties) were discussing sudoku.

One of them was talking about this article he had read by some professor who said sudoku was not actually stimulating to your brain. His reasoning for this was, if given an infinite amount of time, anyone can solve any sudoku puzzle.

But...given an infinite amount of time, anyone can solve ANY puzzle, right? So why was he all up on the sudoku-bashing? It seemed like a weak argument. Thought I'd share.

Moving on...
Our sales manager's wife bought some chairs for the office (fancy-pants, faux leather armchairs) from Target and had them delivered today. I've been putting them together and have decided that Ikea should get with Target and school them on how chair legs should be designed. Also, Ikea should take one of their well-done manuals and beat Target's manual-designers with a rolled up copy until Target has an appropriate amount of sense.

Also, I was talking to Josh about television - we started talking about Star Trek and how unrealistic it was to assume all females of every race would actually be attracted to Captain Kirk. We decided (I was the most adamant about this) that Picard was much more attractive.
Josh: So now I know you had a secret crush on Captain Picard. That's definitely coming out at the Christmas party.

And finally, I've been working on some yoga techniques, and I have graduated from modified plank to the actual plank position. This is a really big deal - I am proud of myself. I also don't look as doofy as that blonde girl.

This is the only time I'll mention this on LJ (well, I might bring it up now and then, but not as annoyingly as I have done in the past).

Remember that old comic I used to do? Well, I've started drawing again (I'm slightly better), and I've decided to have DrunkDuck.com host it (well, it's FREE).

Salt the Holly.
Updates Monday and Thursday beginning October 8.

Thanks in advance for your support!

In other news, Camron is having his housewarming party this weekend - you're supposed to dress as a famous dead person, so I'm going to be Tennessee Williams. doodlebug19 is having OcTOGAfest later this month, so I'll be clad in a toga for that. Then there is a Halloween party in San Antonio that I'm attending as a flapper.

Good ol' dressing up fun! What is everyone planning to be for Halloween?

Also, I got a really strange text message super early this morning (at 2:30a). Anyone recognize the number 512.228.9229?

I was tagged by crazymadhats
List seven weird/quirky habits about myself
Tag seven people to do the same

1. Whenever I go into the restroom, I have to check behind the shower curtain to make sure no one is hiding behind it. Now, I recognize that leaving the shower curtain open would completely eliminate this problem, but having the shower curtain open makes me uncomfortable.

2. Whenever I lock a door, I have to try to open it to make sure it's actually locked. This is probably not weird or quirky at all - it's probably pretty normal. But I'll list it here anyway.

3. When I speak, I use my hands all the time...even when I'm on the phone and the speakee will never see my gestures. When I get frustrated or can't think of a word, I gesticulate frantically.

4. When someone compliments me on a particular article of clothing or accessory (like a necklace) or a physical feature (like my hair), I instinctively touch that body part/item before acknowledging the compliment.

5. I mentally correct people's grammar when they speak to me - I've gotten decent at not correcting them aloud, but rest assured - I correct everyone internally.

6. I load the silverware in the dishwasher point DOWN. Some of you do it point UP. I happen to think that habit is weird.

7. I have a bad habit of losing tubes of chapstick (lip balm, lip gloss, whatever random lip product) before I actually finish said tube. I've only ever finished one tube of lip balm, and it was the most surreal thing EVER.

I tag...eh, no one. I'm lazy.

Okay -
So, at work, we have this dog head icon logo thing - and we decided that for various holidays or seasons, we'd slightly change its look. I had talked to our website designer lady about Talk Like a Pirate Day last week, and check out our dog's costume for Halloween =)

Today is Talk Like a Pirate Day! Arrrrrr! At work, the talking like pirates has been mostly limited to the IT manager and me...and JOSH - who is my ninja rival.
Josh: Do you know what today is?
Me: Yarrr, matey, surely I do. Though I can't help but notice...there is no Talk Like a Ninja Day.
Josh: Any moment of silence is a moment when you are speaking like a ninja.

It's been a busy, busy time at work...it saps up all my energy, and once I get home, I laze around in my pajamas feeling grouchy. Very pleasant.

Though, once this project is over, I won't have that problem anymore, and I can go back to my regular tasks instead of my regular tasks plus eight hours of meetings every day. Yeah.

So our office building was broken into either late Sunday or early early Monday morning. MY office was not broken into - but some of the other businesses in the building got hit - it was definitely an identity theft sort of thing. Ugh. There was nothing even subtle about it - prybars to the doors kind of thing.

What the hell is wrong with people?

In some brighter news, Robert finished the third Spaceburger episode, and it's pretty awesome. It's leaps and bounds above the first, and maybe just leaps above the second.

Also, the quotable ninjahedge:
"I just don't know what I'd do without dead animals."

Out of context, it's hilarious. In context, I was telling him I would cook him weird (vegetarian) food if he came to visit me. Speaking of weird food, I made dolmas on Sunday! reythia assisted in mincing some garlic and pulverizing palatable pinenuts (yay alliteration). They were YUMMY. I am very impressed with myself - after I figured out how to properly roll grape leaves, the dolmas even stayed together decently well. Mmmmm.

Definitely need to add that one to the recipe book.

Work has been very busy lately - I should jump back into it now.

Today is thebratling's birthday! She's 24 (finally).

Get your own slogan, deadhero.

Sorry for going MIA on you guys - I've been equal parts busy, lazy, and uninspired. The office move continued to go quite un-smoothly, but we're IN, so that's the important part. Not much to report, really - been swimming, eating snocones (this past weekend was the last weekend for them this year *cry*), reading Philip Pullman's Dark Materials trilogy (in preparation for "The Golden Compass" this December), and generally being silly and/or completely boring.

A couple quick things to remember about September:
1. It's National Velociraptor Awareness Month.
2. Sept 19 is Talk Like a Pirate Day!

It's lunchtime.

So we're moved into the new office - it's been a fun two weeks, mostly because the people we're subleasing from haven't done squat (even though they said they would in the lease agreement). I stopped being nice this morning and started doling out my own brand of vigilante sass - and what do you know? Things have been getting done today!

Went to Corpus Christi to see RBF and Streetlight Manifesto this weekend - that was super fun! We also went to the museum and saw some replicas of Christopher Columbus' ships - you know, the ones I have been lusting over for about a year. I'll post pictures on Facebook probably, even though no one will be as excited about them as I am =D

My cravings for snocones are pretty much through the roof right now.
This is pretty accurate.

Convo of the day:
I had just told Scott (not Boss Scott) to be good:
Scott: So you just like asserting your will on people even if it's ridiculous!
Me: Exactly - I'd make a good crazy monarch.
Scott: That's true! I want peanut butter. On a donkey. Upside-down...NOW!!

I watched "Pan's Labyrinth" last night with thebratling. It was both awesome and sad, and various aspects keep spinning through my head - a tricky plot/meaning to interpret.

We had an impromptu picnic for July 4 - everything outdoorsy was rained out, but we told people to bring swimsuits over just in case. Sure enough, the sun came out for about an hour, so we ran to the pool, played some water volleyball, and then headed back inside for yummy food.

Jessica made some fantastic guacamole, and reythia made a steaming chocolate cake - the cake was done around 11p, so no one wanted to wait for it to cool. The icing melted and ran all over the place, and it looked just BAD.

Yesterday, I drove Jessica to the blood donation center. Everytime I go, I get a little less nervous, but I'm still too squeamish to donate - this time, though, I sat in the room and watched most of the procedure...and maybe by the end of this year, I will be able to donate blood! This may not seem like a big deal to the rest of you, but it's a HUGE step for me.

The fifth Harry Potter movie comes out on the 11th, and on the 21st, the final book! SQUEEEE - I am excited!
